ODM Party to Release 2017 Elections Audit Report on Madaraka Day

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga is set to release the party's audit report on the 2017 elections on Friday, June 1, 2018.

The audit report will outline the party's performance during the elections across the country.

The former Prime Minister commissioned a team of five members to analyse why the Orange party lost several seats in its perceived strongholds.

Members of the task force included Catherine Mumma (Chairperson), Larry Gumbe, Irshad Sumra, Alfelt Gunda and Tony Moturi.

Conveying the plan, ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna asserted that the party was ready to implement the recommendations of the task force.

"The team is finalising the report and going by the timelines, they are supposed to hand in the report by June 1 because that is when their mandate ends.

"I have confidence in the team and I know they have performed beyond expectations," he stated.

The ODM official, however, could not reveal much on the findings and some possible resolutions as the task force had not prepared a preliminary report.

Some of the areas where the party performed below their expectations were in the Western region, the Coast, Rift Valley, upper Eastern and Nairobi.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto are expected to lead the 55th Madaraka Day celebrations on the same day in Meru County.

President Kenyatta received massive backlash after the 2017 Madaraka Day celebrations after he snubbed the former PM who had attended the celebrations in Nyeri county.

Mr Odinga downplayed the incident stating that he had only attended the event because he received an invitation and chose to honour it.
