Student Sues Ruto Over Academic Credibility

A Kenyatta University student has reportedly moved to court seeking to bar Deputy President William Ruto from giving a public lecture at the institution on Thursday.

The 3rd year student identified as Robert Chemgas now wants the DP to be refrained from addressing the event whose theme is "Journey to Success".

Opposing the event scheduled for Thursday 12 July, the student accused the DP of being an "academic fraud, irredeemably-corrupt and a person of loose morals".

Arguing on these grounds, Chemgas allegedly opines that Ruto "does not qualify to lecture scholars on anything".

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the university's management indicated that they are investigating the matter to ascertain the allegations but watered down the moral and legal authority of a student to meddle with the institution's plans.

The public lecture organized by the university's Academic Secretary's Office is scheduled to take place between 9am and 12am.

A section of Kenyans have in the past trolled the Deputy President over the public lecture at the university drawing particular interest on the theme of the event.

The DP's rise to the second-highest office in the country is a story of ascending from "rags to riches" which has often received admiration and criticism in equal measure.

Ruto, a self-declared "hustler" who rose from being a chicken seller to an influential figure at the heart of the country's political arena has been frequently criticized over his massive wealth which some have linked to corrupt dealings.

Recently, ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna questioned the source of DP's wealth posing: "How can somebody who is responsible for a country that is failing, be doing so well in his private business?

"How comes that this business acumen cannot be translated into the country so that we all prosper? And when you ask, you are told that he is an astute businessman," Sifuna quipped.

Weighing in on the recent opposition by some Jubilee leaders on the lifestyle audit Sifuna opined has quipped that only the guilty ones would be afraid of the process: "If you have made corruption your lifestyle, then when the war against corruption begins, it will be about you," he concluded.
