Google Ranks Top Trending Topics for July 2018

Google released statistics of searches conducted by most Kenyans in the month of July which highlighted three women who had dominated the searches through the month.

The three women - Ruth Kamande, Croatia's President and the sexiest woman alive - were ranked among the top searches that also featured the 2018 World Cup.

Ms Kamande trended for a number of days after High Court Judge Jessie Lesiit sentenced her to death for the murder of her boyfriend, who she stabbed 25 times.

Croatia's President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović became one of the hallmarks of the 2018 FIFA World Cup after she gave hugs to the national team at their locker room.

"World Cup Matches" was ranked as the number one most searched topic for the month with the most popular ones searched being France vs Belgium, Russia vs Croatia, Brazil vs Belgium, England vs Croatia and the Final match between France and Croatia.

The second widely searched topic was "Lunar Eclipse" which took place on July 27, 2018. The eclipse was categorised as the longest one in the 21st century having lasted for 103 minutes.

The three women took up positions three, four and five respectively as the world lawn tennis tournament Wimbledon took position six.

"Pony Videos 2018" came in at position seven as position eight was taken up by a new telenovela airing on Citizen TV, "My Sweet Curse".

Radio presenter Alex Mwakideu also made it to the top 10 trending searches after he made an unexpected move from Radio Maisha to Milele FM.

"Thailand Cave Rescue" concluded the top ten list for leading trends in July. 12 boys who were all members of a football team, along with their coach, were trapped in a cave for two weeks.
