If you use a matatu to get to Nairobi CBD, you should prepare yourself for difficult movement from Tuesday following strict guidelines allowing only two vehicles per sacco into the city.
The new development took effect in Sonko’s plan to decongest the Central Business District (CBD) starting Monday August 6.
The regulation has it that only 2 matatus (PSVs) per Sacco per route will be allowed to access Nairobi's CBD.

Each vehicle will be given five minutes to be in the city centre after which it will be forced to leave to avoid congestion.
One vehicle per route will be picking passengers while the other will be dropping.
Matatu operators who don’t comply risk being arrested and their vehicles impounded.
When questioned by Kenyans.co.ke about the viability of this guideline, Nairobi County Director of Operations Peter Mbaya remarked that their aim is to abolish illegal stages in the city.
Vehicles will be parked outside the metropolis as they wait for their turns to fill the two slots.
“Matatu owners are expected to find their own holding bays before the county designates official parking lots,” Mbaya told Kenyans.co.ke.
He further noted that the operators have complied to the rule.
“The saccos have offered no resistance and we hope that this will remain so as the regulations continue to take effect," he remarked.
