Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has given the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) a 7-day ultimatum to table the result of the first NYS scandal probe.
In a letter to EACC CEO Halaqhe Waqo, the governor demanded for the outcome of investigations into an affidavit filed by key suspect Josephine Kabura.
In February 2016, Kabura filed an affidavit accusing Waiguru and other top government officials of masterminding the alleged theft of Ksh.791 million from NYS.
The affidavit prompted Waiguru and other mentioned individuals to be summoned to record their statements.
The ethics and anti-corruption body later wrote to Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua clearing her name due to the lack of evidence.
“Regrettably, two and half years later, the commission is yet to communicate the outcome of the investigations or inform the public on the veracity of the allegations made by Ms. Josephine Kabura,” the letter seen by Kenyans.co.ke read.
The county boss’ legal team remarked that EACC’s delay in releasing the findings has caused her negative publicity, citing the recent IPSOS corruption survey report.
“Our client has continued to receive negative publicity stemming from the allegations in Ms. Kabura’s affidavit culminating in a sponsored and doctored survey released by IPSOS Synovate.”
Waiguru also noted that EACC have not honoured her prior requests for the results.
A survey recently conducted by IPSOS ranked Waiguru and Deputy President William Ruto as the most corrupt leaders.
