3 Students Arrested Over Murder of Teacher in Nyakach

Police in Nyakach Sub-county, Kisumu have arrested three students following the murder of Guu Secondary School teacher on Wednesday night.

Sources indicate that the students reportedly hacked the Swahili teacher and football coach identified as Mr Manasseh Ong'ole after a dispute in a local pub in Koguta, Nyakach sub-county.

The three suspects are said to have brutally murdered Mr Ong'ole who hails from Teso after he declined to buy them alcohol.

Reports indicate that the three are Ian Agure (21), a first year student at Moi University, Fidel Castro Odero (18) , a Form 4 student at Wang'apala Secondary school and Patrick Omondi (18), a student at Ramba Boys High school.

Incidents of student unruly behavior and animosity against their teachers have increased in the recent past.

For instance, six non-local teachers were hospitalized after thorough beating by students from Chalbi High School in Marsabit on July 2.

Again on July 18, rioting Kirimara Boys High School students in Nyeri assaulted their teachers including the Deputy Principal who was admitted at Karatina Nursing Home.

Earlier in June 2017, a school in Samburu County was closed after pupils attacked and injured teachers.

Kirimoni Primary School pupils descended on their teachers with clubs and machetes protesting against punishment from female teachers.

They were reported to have injured two female teachers in the process.

The students defended their actions citing five major reasons that led to the attack including too many suspensions, verbal abuse from the teachers and being turned away when trying to consult.
