CJ David Maraga Dismisses as Fake Letter Bashing DCJ Philomena Mwilu

Chief Justice David Maraga has exposed a fake letter, said to have come from his office, bashing his embattled deputy Philomena Mbete Mwilu.

The fake document dated August 11, September bears a letterhead from the 'Office of the Chief Justice/President of the Supreme Court of Kenya' and CJ Maraga's signature.

"This letter circulating on social media purporting to be authored by me is FAKE, please ignore," Maraga tweeted.

The letter purports a reprimand by CJ Maraga to DCJ Mwilu over the ongoing corruption case she is facing in court.

"Show trust in the system and the process to clear your name and prove your innocence," part of the fake letter reads.

While promising moral and spiritual support from CJ Maraga, the document also asks Deputy CJ Mwilu to consider taking time from the office in order allow the conclusion of the matter.

The fake document comes after what has been perceived as prolonged silence from the CJ on matters touching on his deputy and the second-highest ranking judge in the country.

On August 29, when Maraga was questioned by journalists on the issue, he responded: "Leave it at that. I don't want to comment on matters that are in Court."

DCJ Mwilu's unexpected arrest raised controversy with critics indicating that the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) should have handled the matter instead of arraigning her before her juniors.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, however, asserted that every civil servant must take responsibility for their actions and cease blaming junior officers for their mishaps.

"We will no longer be blaming junior officers and letting senior officers go scot free. If you can not do your job, step aside," Uhuru quipped.
