Ferdinand Waititu Appoints Former Gatundu North MP Kigo Njenga

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has nominated Kigo Njenga and Juliet Kimemia as the new trade and health County Executive Committee (CEC) members.

Njenga is a former Member of Parliament (MP) for Gatundu North while doctor Kimemia unsuccessfully vied for the Kiambu senatorial position but lost at the primaries to the current senator Kimani Wamatangi.

The county assembly on Wednesday, through a newspaper advert, invited the two for approval hearings slated for September 20 while also appealing to the public for any evidence they had on the suitability or otherwise of the nominees.

The two CECs' appointments came after the Kiambu governor suspended the former trade and health office occupants Isabel Waiyaki and James Murega for mismanaging their respective dockets.

Prior to that, the outgoing members had been suspended for two weeks with instructions from their boss to respond to the claims levelled against them in writing.

Dr. Murega’s suspension a fortnight ago was occasioned by complaints levelled against his department such as congestion, lack of drugs and food in many county hospitals.

“We have been having problems in our hospitals and we want to investigate if he is at fault,” the governor explained.

In reference to the trade docket, Waititu deplored the fact that he was not kept in the loop on matters happening in the department and cited several complaints concerning the department.

Previously in May, governor Waititu had again sent another CEC member on a 30-day compulsory leave before giving him the sack.

John Mugwe, the former executive for Water, Environment and Natural Resources was sent packing for reasons such as lacking the capacity to deliver and failing to be a team player.

Mugwe, a former Waititu ally, had, however, challenged the Kiambu boss in a petition filed in court seeking to bar his boss and the county service board from nominating his replacement.
