How President Kenyatta Tried to Stop DCJ Philomena Mwilu's Arrest - Kalonzo Musyoka

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Tuesday revealed how President Uhuru Kenyatta tried to stop Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu's arrest.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, the NASA principal disclosed that upon learning of DCJ Mwilu's impending arrest he reached out to the President to resolve the matter.

"I had to speak to the president about it. He actually knew about the arrest of DCJ when he was away meeting Trump and he actually made every attempt to say "this can not proceed... and even tried to reach out to the Attorney General for him to reach out to the Chief Justice," Kalonzo stated.

Terming the conditions under which the DCJ was arraigned in court as a 'smack attempt' to demean the constitution, Kalonzo added that the president was surprised that the DCJ was arraigned.

When questioned on why he took to represent Mwilu in court, the Wiper leader affirmed that the issue was weighty and critical and he had to intervene.

"If we want to arraign a DCJ, we cannot take them to a Magistrate’s court. What image are we given to that profession? At that level, that matter should have been taken before JSC," he added.

He further acknowledged the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on their efforts in fighting corruption.

Kalonzo addressed 2022 politics stating that he couldn't be a ‘professional running mate' and that it was time for him to go for the top seat.

"I have no issues with any leader. I practice politics of honesty and decency. Maybe that is my undoing. I do not believe that I should change," he stated.
