KCSE Candidate Dies of Drinking Ethanol After Chemistry Practical

A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination candidate died after allegedly consuming a lethal dose of ethanol.

The form four student, Job Murambi, is reported to have sneaked the chemical out of school after a chemistry practical.

Distraught, the deceased's father, Martin Wafula, told journalists that he found his son unconscious after ingesting the substance.

Mr Wafula rushed his son to the hospital where doctors pronounced the candidate dead.

Confirming the incident, Kitale OCS Daniel Kadei assured that investigations had been launched to establish what caused the death of the student.

Murambi, 21 was a student at Meso Mixed Day Secondary in Kiminini Constituency where the KCSE practicals for Science subjects had kicked off.

The unfortunate incident adds on to the number of bizarre deaths in the examination period.

Earlier in the week, a student was stabbed to death inside a staffroom at Lugusi Boys school.

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Amina Mohammed reacted to the incident dispatching a team to investigate the matter.

The vicious attack disrupted learning at the institution which saw the Education ministry also send a team of counsellors to talk to the students to help them deal with the shocking experience.

The team will talk specifically to Form Four students who are about to start sitting KCSE examinations.
