Police Officer Shoots Boss After Being Denied Off Day

An Administration Police officer reportedly shot and injured his senior on Tuesday at a police station in Kajiado county after the latter denied him an off day.

Reports indicate that the Police Constable identified as Michael Kitaka stormed the house of Inspector Joseph Kariuki within the police camp.

Kitaka demanded an explanation on why Kariuki had refused to grant him an off day prompting an argument.

In the ensuing scuffle, Kitaka shot his senior using his G3 rifle and in the process inflicted serious injuries on his ears and thigh.

The police Inspector, however, wrestled the attacker, overpowered him and managed to disarm him.

Kitaka allegedly fled the scene as the injured officer was rushed to Loitoktok Sub-county hospital where he was treated and discharged.

The Constable later turned himself in at Kimana Patrol Base indicating that he had killed an officer.

He also handed over a G3 magazine with 13 rounds of ammunition to the officers at the base.

The incident comes in the wake of increasing cases of officers engaging in violent acts including attacks on their spouses.

On November 14, an officer shot his wife dead in Trans Mara, Narok county while another officer attached to the DCI in Kiambu county shot his colleague dead on November 23 in a controversial argument over a government vehicle.
