Murathe Vows to Stop DP Ruto's Presidential Bid in Supreme Court

Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe on Saturday revealed that he was ready to go to the Supreme Court to stop DP William Ruto's presidential bid in 2022.

Speaking at the funeral service of CS Raphael Tuju's brother Kefa Tuju at their home in Rarieda, Murathe held that DP Ruto should not run for the seat in the upcoming election cycle.

He maintained that he was ready to go to the Supreme Court in his bid to stop the DP, "Tutaenda hadi Supreme Court hatucheki na watu (We will go the Supreme Court if we have to)"

He argued that the constitution prevented the president and the deputy from running for new terms.

"In the event the president is not here, who represents him? It's the Deputy. This presidency is a pair," he stated.

Murathe had earlier held that Ruto should retire with President Uhuru Kenyatta before the 2022 polls.

"If you (Ruto) have led with Uhuru for two terms, what else do you want. We don't know someone who will guard us but we know someone who will break us. We will take someone who will safeguard Mt Kenya."

On the other hand, the DP, on Thursday, noted that he will throw his weight behind any Jubilee candidate who would beat him on ideas, agenda and programmes.

"We will all compete for different positions in the nominations. Those of us who will be defeated should concede and support the winners," he stated.

In particular, he emphasized that he would support any other presidential nominee from Jubilee Party who defeated him fairly in the race to State House.
