Kamulu Residents Hold Party for Police to Express Gratitude

In what seemed like an out of the norm gesture, Kamulu residents organized a party at their local police post to appreciate the officers in the region for their good job.

The residents lauded the police for always ensuring that the security of every resident was keenly taken into account.

They also noted that unlike other years, crime rates during the just concluded festive season had dropped tremendously in the region.

“We have had good relations with the police in this station because they are peace lovers. They have greatly helped to eliminate criminals from this area,” one resident told NTV reporters

Another resident also expressed his gratitude to the police highlighting that during the festive season, they would go around picking the drunk and disorderly and bring them to the station to keep them out of trouble.

The police would then release them the following morning when they were sober enough. This, he highlighted, would ensure their safety.

During the party, the residents shared a meal and freely interacted with the police and their families as an act of gratitude.

The experience is new to the country since, for a long time, the relationship between the police and civilians has been marred by different challenges.

Civilians have expressed their distrust over the police, arguing that most times, they use their positions to intimidate instead of serving them.

They also accuse the police of being corrupt citing that sometimes you have to pay them for services that should be free.

However, the Police Service continues to mobilize the need for good relationships with civilians arguing that like their slogan, Utumishi Kwa wote, they are willing to serve any Kenyan despite their social standing.
