Census 2019 Jobs: Training Date Unveiled by Govt

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics has announced the date when training for the 2019 census jobs commences.

According to the government agency, the one-week training will start on July 15. 

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, KNBS boss Zachary Mwangi stated that the training will be for 29,700 supervisors and 135,000 enumerators hired to conduct 2019 census.

He also added that the supervisors and enumerators whose applications were successful will be contacted to be issued with more directives.

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has also contracted Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and Moi University to supply it with 164,700 digital tablets required to conduct this year’s national population census.

The tablets, set to cost the agency Ksh 470.5 million will be installed with tracking software, questionnaires and area maps.

Remote, off-grid areas will be supplied with solar chargers.

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, as part of its functions, will spearhead the 2019 census on behalf of the government by an Act of Parliament and gazette legal notice.

KNBS is expected to carry out a nationwide housing and population census from August 24-31.

Population and Housing Census is conducted every ten years in line with international standards. Kenya has conducted seven censuses in 1948, 1962, 1969, 1979, 1989, 1999, 2009.

All persons who will be found within Kenya’s boundaries on the night of 24th/25th August 2019 will be counted regardless of whether they are visitors or not.

The 2019 census will be administered using computer-aided personal interviewing (CAPI) technique.

A tablet will be used to capture the information directly for better accuracy and faster processing of the data.
