On Wednesday night, Jeff Koinange was moved by former Nairobi County Speaker, Beatrice Elachi’s revelation on how she has survived over a year without salary, yet she had been reinstated to her position after being impeached by county MCAs.
Speaking during an interview on JKLive, Elachi explained that she had left the matter in the hands of God.
“Sometimes, there are things you just leave to God. I really want to thank the judge who reinstated me. I have never met her.
"If asked by Chief Justice, David Maraga, I would tell him he has good people in your court. Such people are quiet, but when they make a ruling, they make it based on merit, not based on knowing people.
Jeff further wondered why Elachi would not storm back to work and claim her seat after the court reinstated her.
“I went to court once only and left it to my lawyers. It's good to respect the court. Let us respect the law and I think I have done that. I don’t want to create drama. It's better to show different types of leadership. The MCAs have now taken me to the court of appeal,” Elachi revealed.
Elachi went on to heap praise on President Uhuru Kenyatta, stating that he deserves respect for his role in promoting women leadership.
“I want to thank Uhuru because if it were not for Uhuru, this woman from the village would not be here shining. I want to say, I have a president who supports women and stands with women,” Elachi showered praise on Uhuru.
In May 2019, Employment and Labour Relations Court judge, Maureen Onyango, declared that Nairobi House committee had no powers or jurisdiction to impeach Elachi without according her due process.
The judge said Elachi proved that her rights to a fair administration as well as her right to a fair hearing were violated.
The court further prohibited the Nairobi City County Assembly from entertaining or debating any motion to remove Elachi without according her due process.
Also issued is an order restraining the board from interfering with Elachi's terms of employment.
