How Raila Will Choose Next Kibra MP

ODM leader, Raila Odinga, came up with three criteria which he will use to endorse the next Kibra MP, according to Suba South MP, John Mbadi.

Despite ODM facing a headache on who to pick, Mbadi, on Thursday, revealed that the party had the options of going for a secret ballot, consensus or direct nominations.

“Raila Odinga has convened a meeting next week to discuss how ODM will pick its candidate,” Mbadi told The Standard.

At least four aspirants declared interest in the seat, with three seeking the ODM ticket after the National Assembly Speaker, Justin Muturi, declared the seat vacant.

Those who showed interest to run on an ODM ticket are former MCA, Pius K’Otieno, ODM National Youth Coordinator, Benson Musungu, and Imran Okoth- Ken's brother.

Mbadi’s revelation came in the midst of reports that Kibra residents were opposed to the idea of an outsider governing Kibra, after the death of their endeared MP, Ken Okoth.

In a past interview, ODM Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, neither confirmed nor denied whether he will contest for the seat.

ODM has not received any application from any candidate to vie on its ticket. I cannot say whether I will run or not,” Sifuna stated.

Raila's former campaign manager, Eliud Owalo, quit ODM but did not confirm or deny his interest in the seat.

Several leaders including Nairobi Woman Representative, Esther Passaris, have urged Odinga to pick Imran Okoth as ODM's flag bearer.
