Why Ruto Should Not Run in 2022 - Kabogo

Former Kiambu Governor, William Kabogo, asserted that Deputy President William Ruto should not run for the presidency in 2022, while speaking on Pointblank at KTN News on Wednesday, September 25.

According to Kabogo, President Uhuru Kenyatta, Opposition leader Raila Odinga and Ruto should steer clear of the 2022 race to 'save' Kenya from a heated contest.

He further opined that Ruto and Odinga are the two leaders who create tension in the country.

"The involvement of Kenyatta and Odinga in the next poll would negate their push to unite the country through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) as the nation would be plunged into a contest of tribal groupings.

"Deputy President William Ruto should also reconsider running for the top seat as part of the country’s efforts to heal," Kabogo advised.

The billionaire further claimed that there was a suspicion that Uhuru and Raila were using the BBI to create positions for themselves in the Executive.

Kabogo revealed that Kenyatta and Odinga have been issuing several notices to their allies after the March 2018 handshake, proposing the creation of a Prime Minister post and two deputies.

"There is suspicion out there that these people are out to create positions for themselves.

"We may be pushed to put pressure on them to build bridges, but not participate in the 2022 election. Let them be the country’s fathers. Hata yule jamaa mwingine (even that other guy- in reference to Dr Ruto)," Kabogo opined.

The politician further requested Kenyatta and Odinga to avoid campaigning in Kibra and let their party members campaign on their own.

“The handshake will be jeopardised if Kenyatta and Odinga go to Kibra to campaign for their candidates. When I saw Kenyatta endorse footballer McDonald Mariga for the race, I thought the handshake was dead. The two need to keep off Kibra because if they storm the area, they will end up throwing jibes at each other,” he explained.

Kabogo also disclosed that there was a joint effort by certain political figures to divide Mt Kenya region ahead of 2022 polls. He stated that the leaders were out to create a perspective that there would be a leadership vacuum when Uhuru retires.

“It is the fear of Mt Kenya sitting together. I want to tell Mt Kenya people that if we don’t sit together we will have problems in the next 15 years,” Kabogo warned.
