Aisha Jumwa Released on Tough Conditions

Embattled Malindi  MP Aisha Jumwa has been released from detention.

The judge directed that Jumwa and her aide Geofrey Okuto be released on a cash bail of Ksh 500, 000 or Ksh 1 million bond.

The two were ordered to present themselves to DCI  offices in Malindi on October 22, 2019

A petition by the prosecution to have Jumwa and her aide Geofrey Okuto detained for 21 days to facilitate investigations into the murder of Gumbao Jola, an uncle of the ODM Ganda Ward aspirant, Mr Reuben Mwambize Katana was thrown out of court on grounds that the police lacked concrete evidence.

Jumwa was arrested on Wednesday morning, October 16, after a death was reported at an ODM event she allegedly disrupted

In a statement posted on his social media pages, ODM communications Director, Philip Etale, stated that Gumbao was shielding his nephew when the incident took place.

"He died shielding his nephew from the vicious and fire breathing Jumwa, who was shouting and chanting all manner of adjectives (unprintable to be precise).

The two are under investigation related to the murder, incitement to violence, assault, electoral offences and breach of the Elections Code of Conduct.

Police records also indicate that Jumwa was planning to disrupt the Ganda by-election scheduled for today (Thursday, October 17) using a gang of supporters from Takaungu in Kilifi County.
