Space Lounge Fires All Employees

Space Lounge, one of Nairobi's most popular entertainment spots fired all its employees after the Nairobi County Government and NEMA revoked its operating permit and liquor license on October 17, 2019.

On Thursday, October 31, the club further shut down its operations as seen in the memo sent to all employees.

"Due to the court order, we wish to inform you that Space Lounge & Grill Limited will be officially closed from November 1, 2019," part of the memo read.

The club's management, however, promised to ensure that all their employees' salaries were fully paid.

"Your salaries from the company will be paid by the first week of November," the memo added.

Following the unprecedented closure, the management's notification to their employees expressed sincere regrets at the grim turn of events.

"We have spent a lot of time together and made so many memories but now it is time to say goodbye to each other which is definitely not easy as goodbyes are the hardest.

"You will all be missed by the heads of the company and well as it is said that the goodbyes are the herdest. Best of luck to you for your future endeavours and may you all accomplish big things in life with your hard work," the memo read.

A representative from Space Entertainment, the company that owns the club told Kenyans.co.ke on phone that all employees were sent home but declined to comment on the prospects of reopening or the specifics of the lay-offs.

Justice Loise Komingai, in her ruling on Monday, September 28, directed NEMA and City Hall to immediately revoke operating licenses issued to Space Lounge, Kiza Restaurants, Explorers Tavern and B Concept.
