New Twist in Star Journalist's Murder Case

Detectives and police officers investigating the gruesome murder of The Star journalist Eric Oloo are reported to be considering turning the main suspect in the case into a state witness.

Reports from the Daily Nation on Sunday, December 8, indicate that the Ugunja Deputy station commander Sabina Kerubo, in whose house the body was found, might be turned into a witness to aid the DPP in prosecuting the case.

Kerubo, who is being detained at Siaya Police Station following a directive by the Siaya Principal Magistrate, was arrested on November 21 alongside her alleged lover over the connection to the murder.

The move to turn her into a witness is reported to have been occasioned by the lack of evidence connecting her directly to the murder.

"What we have obtained so far does not link her to the murder but her testimony will be important to prosecute the case," the detective investigating the case was quoted.

The publication further reported the investigations into the case have been completed and the file forwarded to the DPP recommending the two suspects, brothers Victor Ogola Luta and Franklin Joel Luta to be charged with the journalist's murder.

"The file is at the DPP's office and we have given our recommendations. We are seeking concurrence with the state counsel to charge the two brothers with murder," the detective was quoted.

Oloo was found dead inside the police officer's house on Thursday, November 21, with deep stab wounds to the body, with investigations pointing out that he was murdered over an alleged love triangle.

Oloo and Kerubo had been reported to have been cohabiting for close to a year before Oloo's brutal death.

Police are reported to have also having a reliance on testimony from Kerubo's house help and teenage daughter, alongside that of the police officer who arrested Franklin while on the run in his Mutumbu home in Yala.
