Multiple Dead as Two Modern Coast Buses Collide at Blackspot

Update: Following the trend of accidents involving the Modern Coast busses, the National Transport and Safety Authority has suspended the company's operating licence.

Two Modern Coast buses collided on the morning of Thursday, December 12 in Kiongwani along the Nairobi -Mombasa Highway.

Addressing the media, Makueni County Police Commander Joseph ole Napeiyan confirmed that seven of the passengers aboard both buses passed on. 62 others were seriously injured.

The accident happened at around 2:40 am as reported by the Daily Nation. The injured were rushed to the Sultan Hamud Sub-county Hospital.

"One of the buses was heading from Malaba town while the other one was heading towards Nairobi when the accident occurred. The bus coming from Mombasa left its lane and collided with the oncoming bus," Napeiyan was quoted by Daily Nation.

The collision occurred at a blackspot that has claimed 10 accidents in the last three weeks.

The accident came barely a month after another Modern Coast bus that was headed to Kampala Uganda was involved in an accident in Kericho leaving 23 injured an one dead, on November 22.

On June 1, another Modern Coast bus was involved in a head-on collision with a matatu leaving eight people dead and six others injured.

Again adding to the company's accident count.
