Arrest New Treasury PS - Court Orders

The High Court on Tuesday, December 17 ordered for the immediate arrest of Treasury Principal Secretary Julius Muia for contempt of court.

First reported by K24 Digital, Justice David Majanja issued the warrant of arrest against Muia after he failed to honour his summons to appear in court to give evidence in a suit about the reopening of accounts belonging to the Child Welfare Society of Kenya (CWSK) held at a local bank.

Justice Majanja issued the directive to the Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai to facilitate the arrest of the PS.

"Warrant of arrest issued against PS Treasury for failure to attend court. The warrant of arrest to be executed by the Inspector General Kenya Police Service to be availed in court on December 18, 2019," ordered Justice Majanja as quoted by K24 Digital.

The High Court had earlier issued an order for Muia to appear before Justice Majanja on December 8.

Further, Majanja declined to lift orders freezing the Child Welfare Society of Kenya's (CWSK) bank accounts.

The court on December 10, 2019, froze the operation of another account belonging to the society.

The case came to the limelight after activist Okiya Omtatah took to court protesting the running of the welfare’s accounts.

Omtatah filed an application seeking conservatory orders suspending the solicitor general, Ministry of Labour and Social Services, and the attorney general from changing signatories to the existing accounts.
