Murathe Reveals Uhuru's New Position in 2022

Former Jubilee Party Vice Chairman  David Murathe detailed how President Uhuru Kenyatta may remain in power in 2022 through ascending to the Executive Prime Minister position.

In an interview with Nation on Sunday, December 29, Murathe asserted that Kenyatta would remain the de facto party leader of Jubilee, and this would aid him to clinch the new role stipulated in the Building Bridges Initiative.

According to him, new political alignments may come into shape and the nation may witness a scenario whereby the leader of the majority party in Parliament forms a government, in coalition with other parties, and this may ensure that Kenyatta remains relevant and in active politics after 2022.

"The only thing Kenyatta can't do us to run for Presidency, but under the new political dispensation envisaged by the BBI team, we anticipate new political formations that will be all-encompassing and inclusive.

"Nothing stops the President, as the leader of Jubilee, to head the government as the Executive Prime Minister as long as the party remains the largest in Kenya," Murathe argued.

This means that Kenyatta would not run for the presidency in 2022, but raises questions on his deputy, William Ruto's, presidential ambitions as his allies expect him to head the party in 2022 in the State House race.

"Why is the clamour of elections coming from them? Let them know and understand that Kenyatta will remain the party leader come rain or shine, and if they have plans to contest that, let them bring it on. The earlier, the better," Murathe poked holed at Ruto's allies.

His remarks come a few days after Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju proclaimed that leaders facing corruption charges would be locked out of the party elections slated for March 2020.

Tuju stated that the move was in line with President Uhuru Kenyatta's zero-tolerance to corruption and enforcing the party's constitution that bars members with integrity issues from occupying any position in the party.

"“You cannot abet corruption and say you are a staunch member of Jubilee yet the party advocates for zero tolerance to corruption in its manifesto," Tuju argued.
