A Kenya Prisons officer has died after he was stabbed while partying with colleagues on the night of Wednesday, April 29.

Police records indicate that the slain officer since identified as Manasseh Kuria Wamalwa had attended a party at a colleague's house - identified as Samuel Khaemba - who is attached to the Ruiru Prison.

The secret event allegedly attended by five officers and one civilian was held in a locked house opposite the Ruiru Prisons College in Kiambu County.

A report by the Daily Nation indicated that the officers had differed leading to Wamalwa's demise. It was established that the slain prison warder was stabbed twice on his back.

“He was found lying in a pool of blood with two stab wounds on his back outside the said house. The alleged house belonging to Samuel Khaemba attached to Ruiru Prisons College was found deserted and he is still at large,” police records show.

Officers Alex Kaviti, Simon Wafula, and Alvin Kipchumba were arrested in relation to the incident. Officers from the Ruiru Police Station stated that the trio would aid in carrying out investigations to unravel the matter.

Wamalwa's body was ferried to the Kenyatta University Funeral Home pending a postmortem.

On January 1, 2020, Kenya Prisons Commissioner General Wycliffe Ogalo had warned warders against the surge in the number of reported cases against them.

The prisons boss had highlighted that the officers were getting on news headlines for the wrong reasons, issuing a warning against involvement in crime.
