A contingent of police was deployed to the burial of Catherine Nyambura, the wife of Konyu MCA Eric Mwangi after area MP Rigathi Gachagua arrived.

A report aired by KTN News on Saturday, May 30, detailed that the police camped at the MCA's home, blocking residents from entering the compound, as most of them were out to offer support and solidarity to the MP after his bank accounts were frozen by the government.

The report added that Gachagua, on Friday, May 29, claimed that he was a target of the government's witchhunt due to his loyalty to Deputy President William Ruto.

A High Court in Nairobi ordered Gachagua's three bank accounts to be frozen as the Assets and Recovery Agency (ARA) launched a graft investigation against him.

"This is Gachagua's first public appearance since the reports and his supporters came to listen to him.

"The police are blocking the resident's also as the funeral is only scheduled for 45 minutes," a KTN News journalist stated.

Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa and his Gatundu counterpart also attend the funeral.

"Under the threat of police teargassing the mourners, we have braved it all with the help of Almighty God to bid farewell to Catherine Nyambura. Brutalizing the living and the dead is a core pillar of our legacy," Kuria mocked the government through a Facebook post.

The police were also sent to ensure Covid-19 regulations are adhered to as only 15 individuals were allowed to attend the 45 minutes funeral.

On Tuesday, May 26, MCA Mwangi was grilled over the death of his wife, whose body was floating in Hohwe dam, Mathira, Nyeri.

An autopsy report conducted on Wednesday, May 28, at the Karatina Sub-County mortuary, revealed that the deceased had not sustained any physical injuries.

“We are taking blood samples, tissue and stomach contents to the government laboratory for further analysis to answer the cause of death," Dr. Nyabuto Brenda, a pathologist stated.

Further, the examination revealed that her head, lungs and stomach had amassed a lot of fluid.
