Kenya has recorded 322 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours as the country's total case load rises to 31,763.
During the daily Covid-19 briefing at Afya House on Friday, August 21, Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi announced that 4, 470 samples had been tested over the period.
All the cases were Kenyans except for nine who were foreigners.
Of the positive cases, 179 are male and 143 are female while the youngest case is 3-years old and the oldest is aged 92 years.
In county distribution, Nairobi leads with 106 cases, Kajiado 53, Machakos 25, Nakuru 25, Kiambu 23, Kisii 23, Busia 13, Mombasa 11, Kisumu 5, Bomet 5, with Garissa, Homa bay and Nandi Counties all recording 4 cases.
Uasin Gishu, Kitui, Turkana and Taita Taveta all reported three cases each.
At the same time, 288 patients recovered with 190 on the home-based care program while 98 were discharged from hospital bringing the total number of recoveries to 18,157.
Regrettably, 16 patients succumbed to the disease bring the total number of deaths to 532.
CAS Mwangangi stated that 885 health care workers had contracted the virus in 35 counties.
She also disclosed that discussions were ongoing over a strike notice issued by healthcare workers unions.
"We have been having conversations with health unions & workers since last night. There are a few challenges, but we are working towards ensuring we get on amicable grounds. 65% of counties are Covid-19 ready," she stated.
The CAS stated that the modelling team had shown that the curve would continue to peak before slightly going down in December 2020.
