The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) on Thursday, September 10 announced the closure of Likoni road that is set for an upgrade.

Likoni Road connects Mombasa Road and Jogoo Road and will be closed from House of Manji all through to the Jogoo Road junction.

KURA revealed that the road is set to be upgraded into a dual carriageway with the traffic also set to affect Jogoo road.

"We wish to notify the general public that there will be traffic disruption along Likoni Road (Jogoo Road-Lungalunga Road) section starting from Wednesday, September 16 2020.

"This will allow KURA to upgrade the road from the existing single carriageway to a dual carriageway," read a statement from KURA.

KURA advised motorists to use alternative routes to avoid any inconveniences that will be caused by Likoni road closure from Wednesday.

Motorists can use Lunga Lunga road all through to Outering Road to access Jogoo road or Enterprise Road to Lusaka Road then connect to Jogoo road.

Alternatively, motorists can use Lusaka Road just after the Toyota Kenya Junction or Outering Road that are straight forward in connecting to Jogoo road.

Those in Jogoo road can also use the Donholm interchange to join Outering then proceed to Mombasa road or join Lunga Lunga then head over to Likoni and join Mombasa Road.

There is however good news for businesses around Likoni Road as local traffic will be granted access to ensure minimal disruption of the businesses.

Nairobi has stepped up its efforts to improve roads with a number being closed for upgrade or erection of footbridges to ease crossing of the road for pedestrians.
