The US 2020 elections may be too close to call, but most global television networks and political experts are betting on former Vice President Joe Biden to be the 46th President.

The Democrat looks set on trouncing incumbent Donald Trump of the Republican Party. However, in Kenya, analysts are using the closely contested elections as a benchmark for Kenyan politics and a mirror for Kenyan politicians.

Joe Biden has drawn a number of comparisons with Deputy President William Ruto who is hell-bent on succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

Kenyans.co.ke spoke to political analyst and TV pundit Martin Andati who stated that Ruto should learn several lessons and pick a leaf from Biden's career spanning over four decades.

The two have served as deputies to Presidents, nonetheless, Andati argued that Ruto has countlessly contradicted his boss, Uhuru Kenyatta.

"Biden fully supported Barack Obama despite the latter being younger. He was humble and even supported the 2016 Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton.

"Biden stepped away from politics for four years and returned to run for the presidency in 2022. He never disobeyed Obama. Our very own Ruto wants to inherit the presidency even before Uhuru goes home," Andati stated.

Kenyatta reportedly agreed to campaign for Ruto in 2022 and have him lead Kenya for 10 more years. Ruto's camp, however, argued that the Head of State betrayed him by shaking hands and partnering with Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga.

The President's camp hit back accusing him of openly defied Kenyatta. They vowed to support Odinga to serve as a one-term transitional president.

Andati argued that if Ruto had been humble, Kenyatta would have honoured his pledge similar to Obama campaigning for Biden.

"If Biden wins, Obama would be the one who delivered the White House to him. Barack is popular among blacks and youth. Ruto could have benefitted from Uhuru's popularity and directive but he never learnt that patience pays," Andati stated.

Kenyatta accused Ruto of sidelining himself from the government. The Head of State claimed the two had been part of a relays team until when Ruto took the baton and ran in the opposite direction.

Similar to Biden taking a break from politics for four years, the University of Nairobi don Herman Manyora urged Ruto to take a break in 2022 and run for the presidency in 2027 and 2032.

"He would then focus on his businesses, chicken farming, hotel industry and any other before returning later on," the analyst opined arguing that the DP frustrated Kenyatta to a point where he (Kenyatta) would ensure Ruto does not succeed him.

Manyora spoke on Saturday, May 16 in a video posted on his YouTube page.
