Popular presenter Muthoni wa Kirumba has disclosed an incident in which she slapped another presenter, Keziah wa Kariuki, during a live show.

In an interview with Dun Wainaina, she stated that the scuffle caused both of them to be suspended from work.

At the time, they were working at Bahasha FM when Muthoni was told that her co-host was spreading rumours about her being a junkie.

She decided to confront Keziah during one of the show’s breaks as the music was playing but got a rude shock when the co-host despised her.

“When we went on air I noticed that she was sneering at me. I hate gossip and so I confronted her about it and she shrugged it off. As the music ended, I slapped her,” Muthoni recounted.

Njogu Wachira who was the boss at the time suspended the two presenters but the aggressor received a heavier punishment.

Muthoni was suspended for two weeks while Keziah was sent home for one week.

After the suspension period, the two continued working together and had a cordial relationship on air.

Interestingly, Muthoni currently works with Keziah's husband, Muthee Kiengei, who is also a radio presenter at Kameme FM.

At its heyday, Bahasha FM reportedly owned by former MP John Mututho commanded a substantial following in the Mt Kenya region.

When it collapsed, many of its presenters such as Muthoni, Keziah, Mercy Nungari, Njogu Wachira, as well as Kiambu Woman Rep Gathoni wa Muchomba moved to Kameme FM - one of the most popular vernacular radio stations.

BBC journalist Larry Madowo also started his media career at Bahasha FM.

Despite not being a Kikuyu speaker, Madowo would present the news in English. Fast forward to 2020, the journalist has made a name for himself at BBC.
