Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has revealed tactics used by governments to achieve certain objectives.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Governor Mutua hinted that it was possible that the leaked letter that claimed BBI would receive a spectacular defeat in Mt Kenya could have originated from President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Mutua speculated that as an insider in the previous regime of retired President Mwai Kibaki he was privy to similar tactics.

I am also wondering, could this be a master political game initiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta to give him a good reason to rejig a few things? Well, it is a technique I have seen used effectively. Time will tell,” Mutua stated.

“The president has many mechanisms to cause change and at times change doesn't have to come directly from him. It can be initiated from outside so when problems are exposed, a solution can be found,” he added while speaking to Kenyans.co.ke.

When questioned on specific instances where such tactics were used, the governor explained that he was not at liberty to discuss them.

Mutua expressed hope that since the challenges explained in the letter had been brought to the limelight, a solution was in the works.

“The good senator Kang'ata’s phone is off. If anyone gets in touch with him, please tell him I want to buy him a drink. He has made me proud,” he praised.

However, at the time of publishing, the senator’s phone was on but not being answered.

Mutua stated that it was very unusual for someone as senior as the Senate Majority Chief Whip to write a letter to the head of state yet he enjoyed special access to the president.

“The letter also raises a few questions. For example, based on my previous experience working closely for President Kibaki, I am asking myself, is there a communication breakdown in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s political organization? Who are the gatekeepers to the president?” he wondered.

The controversial letter has received a variety of responses from politicians who support the BBI constitutional referendum and those who oppose it.

The ODM Party has criticised Kang’ata for writing the letter and accusing the senator of abandoning the BBI referendum push.
