Former Radio Citizen presenter June Dezina Vel has quit the media industry for politics and announced that she will be running for an elective post in 2022.
Dezina Vel, popularly know as Tausi said that she had resigned from Qwetu Radio, where she used to work as a show host.
"I worked at Radio Citizen for 14 years and other stations in Kenya. However, I have quit the industry and am now joining politics.
"I want to represent Baringo County residents and am aspiring to vie for the Eldama Ravine Ward seat in 2022," Dezina Vel said in a recorded video.
The former QTV anchor rallied her followers to support and campaign for her as she had a manifesto that would benefit the area.
"Welcome to my campaign (Whatsapp) group and let us change the face of Eldama Ravine. Mimi ni mama mchapa kazi na nitasimama na akina mama na vijana pia (I am a woman dedicated to serving. I will serve both women and the youth)," she pledged.
Dezina Vel, nonetheless, did not clarify whether she would run as an independent candidate or align herself with a political party.
In November 2020, she disclosed that she was struggling to make ends meet despite being employed at Qwetu Radio. Dezina Vel pleaded with her followers and well-wishers to offer her job opportunities, saying she was willing to accept even menial jobs.
"Guys. Let me break the silence. Anyone who has any job to offer, kindly help me out. I don't mind whether it’s at a receptionist's desk or customer care.
"Those who are acquainted with me know that I can do my work diligently. The media industry is currently a no go zone," the former producer posted on her social media pages.
She added that she was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and that a business she had launched also failed.
