A mother lost three of her four children after they burned to death at their home in Siaya County on Thursday night, February 18.

Police said the twins were three years old while their other sibling was aged five. They all succumbed to burn injuries.

Siaya County Police Commander, Francis Kooli confirmed the incident, saying that the deceased children were burnt beyond recognition.

The woman and her 10-year-old child escaped unhurt in the incident that occurred at Baragulu in Alego Usonga sub-county.

Kooli said that the cause of the fire had not yet been ascertained. He added that investigations into the matter had already commenced.

The survivors will be treated for trauma, counselled by a therapist before they are interrogated on the fire incident that killed their kin.

In 2019, Siaya County Government said that it would give priority to disaster management through provision of fire fighting machines and rescue in their subsequent budgets. The administration said that it would establish a fire and rescue services authority and equip firefighters.

This was after six houses were razed down and property of an unknown value destroyed in a mysterious fire incident in January 2019.

Villagers said this was the first time such a bizarre fire was witnessed in the area.

They added that about five years ago, a similar incident was witnessed in the neighbouring Usonga location where several families were left homeless at Nyandheho village.
