Police are looking for a man popularly know as - 'Baba Lewis' - who is suspected to have killed his wife in Chaka, Nyeri County.

The man who has since gone underground is alleged to have stabbed his wife only identified as Muthoni, at their home.

Some of his colleagues at work said that he had been complaining of a headache and had even left work on Saturday, February 20, to go to the hospital.

He would then proceed home, at which point he is alleged to have called Muthoni to come over - and attend to him.

"He called his wife saying he was unwell and needed to seek medical care. He told her to bring him his coat and meet him by the roadside so she could accompany him to the hospital," said one Samuel Maina.

According to his colleagues, the suspect later called them saying that he had killed his wife Muthoni and dumped her body.

The report jolted the colleagues who began a search before discovering Muthoni's body on Sunday, February 21. Reports indicate that the body had multiple multiple stab wounds.

According to their neighbors, the couple had for a while engaged in constant fights, but which they would quickly resolve, only to fight again.

Joyce Njeri, one of the neighbors said, "Two weeks ago, a fight erupted between them, but we intervened."

There have been rising cases of murder involving families these past few months, something experts have blamed on anxiety brought about by economic pressure due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

On February 7, 2021, a man in Mbeere South, Embu County, allegedly killed his wife and two children aged 9 and 5.

The suspect is said to have locked up his family inside their house before executing them one after the other.

In yet another incident, a woman identified as Mary Wambui was arrested in Kirinyaga County after she allegedly killed her five-year-old son during what was said was a prayer session. Neighbors claimed that Mary was casting out demons from her son, Collins Siaki, when he suddenly sprawled on the floor. The police are looking into the matter.
