Popular Bongo Flava artist Lucas Mkenda, known as Mr Nice, survived a grisly road accident along the Nakuru - Nairobi Highway on Wednesday evening, March 17.
Mr Nice said that he was being treated in a hospital with minor injuries, but was unfortunate that he fell prey to highway accident robbers who had posed as good samaritans.
The Kikulacho hit maker's car collided with a speeding lorry that was ferrying milk from Nairobi.
Mr Nice and his driver were en route to perform at a private ceremony in Naivasha.
"My driver and friend said that the truck driver veered off the road and rammed into our car after his breaks failed. The glasses that broke pierced my body and I got some head injuries.
"I was sitting at the back passenger seat as I wanted to rest and prepare for the show. It was a very bad accident, others helped us, others stole from us," Mr Nice recounted while speaking with Tanzanian journalist Millard Ayo.
The Kenyan-based artist further thanked the doctors who attended to them and the good samaritans who rescued them. In 2015, the King’asti and Tabia Gani hitmaker also escaped death narrowly after he was involved in a road accident in Dar es salaam.
Police have warned that the trend of accident survivors becoming victims of robbery to fake good samaritans was escalating. Passengers lose phones, jewellery and money as the robbers ransack their bags and pockets.
The law enforcers said that they would launch a crackdown on the youth and boda boda riders who rob unsuspecting victims. Police added that some accidents are however deliberately orchestrated as truck drivers collude with the thieves
"We have seen a trend where drivers are selling goods on transit, and later stage-managing a robbery along the major roads," Naivasha OCPD Samwel Waweru.
