Deputy President William Ruto advised his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta, on navigating the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) setback occasioned by the High Court ruling which nullified the project.
During the National Prayer Breakfast at Parliament Buildings on Thursday, May 27, Ruto urged Uhuru to reach out to him (DP) and other leaders to discuss the way forward.
He based his advice on a bible verse read by ODM leader Raila Odinga at a similar event in 2018.
"So much happened but as we stand today, the Tanga Tanga tours are over and the reggae has also stopped. I think we have to listen and do something together.
"Former Prime Minister (Raila Odinga) said something profound (in 2018). In fact, in a very uncharacteristic manner, he gave us a verse, Isaiah 1:18 that says 'come let us reason together. Maybe God is speaking to us again, telling us to reason together," Ruto stated.
He also took a swipe at Parliament Speaker Justin Muturi's coronation by elders while analysing the events that have occurred since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in March 2020.
"Even in the midst of this pandemic, we have had positive things; the President launched the Lamu Port, we got our first female CJ (Martha Koome) and also our speaker (Muturi) got an appointment with the elders," he added.
Uhuru, while speaking, deviated from a direct confrontation with his deputy and reiterated the need to preach peace and unity.
"First and foremost to thank the Speakers for arranging this event despite the pandemic. The prayers that have been said today are geared towards giving us hope at a time when we are confronted by the worst health pandemic ever.
"We need to pull and work together and have hope that we are indeed able to overcome this challenge. Let us not hear the summons today and forget these teachings tomorrow," Uhuru rallied.
He urged Parliament to consider health bills tabled before them and asked the Speakers to expedite the hearings.
"Access to quality healthcare is imperative for all Kenyans. Kenya Cannot be changed by one single Kenyan but we can, when we come together," he added.
