The officers in the ranks of sergeants and corporals were transferred to police stations in 22 counties including Kisumu, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, Bungoma, Tharaka Nithi, Nyamira, Embu, Nyeri, Kisii, Migori, Muranga, Homa Bay, Nyandarua, Siaya, Busia, Mombasa, Meru, Kitui, Makueni, Vihiga, Kilifi and Machakos.

"Release the officers to report to their new stations with immediate effect. Submit casualty returns on departure," the notice added.

Elgeyo Marakwet made headlines after the death of corporal Caroline Kangogo who died by suicide on Friday, July 16.

Detectives were sent to the county to trail the wanted officer accused of murdering two individuals.

An autopsy conducted by Chief Government Pathologist, Dr Johansen Oduor indicated that Kangogo died by a single gunshot wound to the head through the chin, causing damage to her skull and brain. He, however, did not confirm whether she died by suicide or was murdered.

Banditry and clashes over grazing land also escalated in the county forcing Interior CS Fred Matiang'i to chair a security meeting in the area in July 2021. Police officers were also deployed to quell the violence.

This came in the backdrop of a banditry attack that left five dead and five others injured. The militia were said to have targeted the contentious Chepkorowo grazing field.
