Several people are feared dead after a Nairobi-bound bus was involved in a grisly road accident on Sunday, October 17.
The 67-seater bus belonging to the Alpha Bus Company was headed to Nairobi from Garissa. However, the journey was cut shot when it overturned near Mwingi.
In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the bus is seen laying on its side in the middle of the road. First respondents are also seen trying to pull out casualties from the bus.
Alpha Bus company confirmed the incident in a post they shared on their social media handle. The company stated that it would keep the public informed
"Sad one indeed …We will keep you informed meanwhile we need your prayers," read the post.
From the booking data, the vehicle had 44 passengers on board , that is 30 females and 14 men. The authorities are yet to confirm the number of people who lost their lives in the crash.
Sources privy to Kenyans.co.ke confirmed that the road accident was caused by over-speeding. According to reports, casualties have been rushed to the Mwingi General Hospital.
Members of the public have decried the slow response by the emergency services on the scene.
On October 11, severaal people were feared dead while others sustained injuries after a bus overturned at Fort Tenan in Kericho. A medical team from Londiani District Hospital responded to emergency calls and rushed to the aid of the accident victims.U
Accoding to a report by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), road accidents have increased by 25 percent 2021compared to a similar period last year. NTSA accidents were attributed to reckless driving, dangerous overtaking, drunk driving and failure to use protective gear such as helmets.
