Speeding Driver Lands Into Ditch After Lorry Obstructs Traffic on Highway [VIDEO]

A driver swerved into a ditch to save her life after a lorry made a U-Turn at an undesignated spot on the busy Southern Bypass. 

In the video seen by Kenyans.co.ke and that was captured by a motorbike rider’s helmet camera on Friday, March 4, the lorry was trying to make a turn at the middle of the two lanes. 

In the video, the lorry driver can be seen flouting traffic rules and obstructing the speeding car.

The truck driver crossed over the outgoing lane into the oncoming one, nearly running into an accident with the oncoming vehicle. 

Sensing danger, the driver of the hatchback swiftly veered off the highway, hit the yellow and black traffic pole barriers before landing in a ditch. 

A school bus driver, the motorbike rider who captured the whole unfolding, and another motorist parked by the highway to check on the driver. 

The lorry driver could not be seen from the oncoming traffic caught on camera.

It could not be ascertained whether he switched lanes again after realising that he had caused an accident. 

The number of passengers in the car and the extent of their injuries was also not ascertained at the time of publishing. 

Section 53(1) and 67 of the Traffic Act note that a motorist can be charged Ksh10,000 for causing obstruction by allowing a vehicle to remain in any position on the road or cause inconvenience to other motorists.

He can also be charged with other offences under the Traffic Act and pay for damages for the car driver.
