Former Kiss FM radio Presenter Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang'o has clinched the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket for the Lang'ata parliamentary seat.
Jalang'o emerged as the victor in the Thursday, April 22 polls after he garnered 3,509 votes. In the Kibera parliamentary nominations, incumbent, Imran Okoth failed to clinch the ODM ticket after losing to Mwalimu Peter Orero who garnered 3,422 votes.
Okoth got 2,739 in the Thursday nominations.
The Kibra legislator won the by-elections in 2019 after his brother and former MP Ken Okoth succumbed to cancer.
After the announcement of the Lang'ata results, Jalang'o took to social media to congratulate his supporters for supporting his bid even as he promised to deliver the seat to the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party.
"God has given me the chance to fly the Azimio Flag in the August elections. Thank you Langata. We are one step in. Now the real work begins and God is above everything," read the statement in part.
Jalang'o was closely followed by Oscar Omoke who got 1,612 votes. Also in the race was former Gor Mahia Treasurer, Sally Bolo who garnered 138 votes.
Jalang'o will face off with incumbent, Nixon Korir of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
His victory comes after weeks of speculations of dropping out of the race with reports claiming that the party had opted to issue a direct ticket to another candidate.
These allegations were refuted by the party's ODM National Elections Board Chairperson, Catherine Mumma.
"We are pleased to inform our members that the process of consensus-building with respect to the positions of governor, senator and woman rep, and MPs for the two counties Nairobi and Mombasa is progressing well and the conclusion shall thereof be communicated as soon as we finalize," she stated.
