A Chinese national has camped along Ring Road Kilimani for days, begging Kenyans to fundraise for her to purchase an air ticket back home.

The lady was spotted sitting on the road, a few metres from Yaya Centre, as her compatriot urged passers-by to contribute and help her get fare back to China.

She was receiving donations in both cash and via mobile money, with an open basket and a banner detailing her pay bill number and a Kenyan phone number.

“If you want, help her. She just asked for help. All you do is just send the money,” the other Chinese lady rallying contributors pleaded.

The two claimed that the lady in dire need of assistance since she had run bankrupt while in Kenya.

However, a few Kenyans were skeptical to help her and reiterated that she should seek aid from the Chinese Embassy.

The debate centred on why she was pleading on the roads yet she could easily be repatriated

But her friend defended her, insisting that they were stranded, nonetheless.

“What is wrong with a Chinese asking for money? She does not have a job? We do not have jobs. I just want to help her,” she insisted.

“But she has two expensive phones. Can you sell me one phone?” a voice asked in the background.

As the confrontation with passers-by who doubted her lamentations escalated, the embattled Chinese woman opted to rather defend herself, insisting that she had no other means of help than reach out to generous and kind Kenyans.

“I want to go back home,” she cried.

She also clutched her phones and other property, wary that the situation might worsen.

Some passers-by also discouraged others from discriminating against her and judging the situation. Others advised her to watch out for her safety.
