Mathira East Deputy County Commissioner, Ebrahim Muchangi collapsed and died at his official residence in Saigon estate, Nyeri county.
Speaking to the media, Mathira East police boss, Benjamin Rotich noted that Muchangi's demise came as a shock as he hadn't exhibited any peculiar signs a week prior.
The police boss noted that a post-mortem would be conducted on Monday, July 25, to determine the actual cause of his death.
Sources indicated that the DCC, who struggled to call for assistance, suddenly collapsed at his residence. Witnesses who rushed to Muchangi's aid noted that he constantly complained of severe chest pain.
"His death has shocked us. I had spent the better part of the day with him. He was jovial and showed no signs of bad health. When I learned about his demise I was devastated. I could not believe it until I visited the hospital," a local chief, James Muriuki, stated.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed while undergoing treatment. The body was later taken to Jamii Hospital mortuary, in Karatina awaiting postmortem.
Muchangi was described by his friends as a leader who personified and exemplified excellence in his craft.
"We have lost a very good team leader, a good mentor who would listen and guide you whenever you went wrong. He treated us so well you couldn't even know he was our deputy county commissioner," another chief, Davidson Ithiru stated.
Ithiru revealed Muchangi's final moments, noting that Muchangi did not exhibit any health issues while attending a burial ceremony in Konyu ward, Nyeri county.
The incident mirrors the demise of Nyakach Deputy County Commissioner Sylvester Munyasia whose body was found in his house in May 2022.
According to a close colleague, Munyasia had complained of health issues days leading to his demise.
