The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has nominated former Sauti Sol protégé Crystal Asige to the Senate.
In the nomination list published by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Wednesday, July 25, Asige was nominated to represent persons with disabilities in the Senate.
The musician, who is visually impaired was nominated alongside Nickson Ochieng, who was the male representative.
Her nomination came two years after she parted ways with Sauti Sol's talent mentorship project - Sol Generation in February 2020.
Asige, who starred in the Extravaganza hit song stated that the management had shown her the door, on grounds that she was no longer functional in the group.
However, the group's management explained the decision to expel her was on mutual terms, adding that she did not meet the threshold the company had set for her.
In March, Sauti Sol was involved in a tussle with Azimio, after Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga's handlers played their song Extravanganza during the unveiling of Martha Karua as his running mate.
The band threatened to lodge a legal complaint against the political front claiming that Azimio had not obtained the requisite licenses to use the song in the televised event.
ODM also nominated youth leader Helena Lemaletian, who stole the show during the launch of Raila's bid, to the called ‘Queen Of the North’ are among notable people ODM has nominated to the senate.
The Jubilee party nominated President Uhuru Kenyatta's sister Kristina Wambui Pratt and Governor Anne Kananu for senate nomination while Murang'a Woman Representative Sabina Chege was nominated to the National Assembly.
Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria's name was missing from the list submitted by Chama Cha Kazi to the IEBC - despite earlier reports that he had submitted his name for nomination.
Among those nominated by UDA are Secretary-General Veronica Maina, Laikipia Woman Rep Cate Waruguru, Starehe MP Charles Njagua and Kajiado East MP Peris Tobiko.
