Jubilee Sweeps All MP Seats in Lamu

President Uhuru Kenyatta's ruling Jubilee party secured the two members of parliamentary seats in Lamu county in the hotly contested Tuesday 9 elections. Lamu county has only two constituencies, Lamu East and Lamu West. 

As the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and its officials continue to announce results of the Tuesday 9  polls, Jubilee's flag is soaring high in Lamu county.

The two MP-elects, Stanley Muiruri and Ruweida Mohamed will join the long list of candidates who have won elective posts with a Jubilee party ticket. The other candidates include Agnes Pareiyo, John Waluke, Stephen Mogaka, Samuel Arama among others.

Stanley Muiruri

Stanley Muiruri Muthama under the party was re-elected as the MP in Lamu West constituency. He amassed 14, 515 votes against the other 10 candidates. He will be part of the several lawmakers re-elected in their respective regions.

His closest opponent Josphat Musembi Matei from Usawa Party got 4,947 votes. In third place was Lamu County Assembly Speaker Abdu Kassim Ahmed of ANC with 4,699 votes.

Muthama will serve his second term in the constituency after succeeding Julius Ndegwa.

Ruweida Mohamed

In Lamu East constituency, Ruweida Mohamed Obo made history as the first woman MP. Ruweida garnered 5,498 votes dethroning Sharif Athman Ali of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) who mustered 4,633 votes. 

He had served two terms 2013-2017 under United Democratic Front (UDF) and 2017-2013 with a Jubilee ticket before decamping to UDA.

Ruweida Mohamed initially served as the Woman Representative in Lamu county after being elected in 2017 with a Jubilee ticket.

The lawmaker is a trained pilot since 1999 but quit her career and focused on politics as the woman representative.

In her career as a pilot, she has flown reputable politicians including Azimio La Umoja flagbearer Raila Odinga.

The pilot defeated the other 2 candidates in the race, Kombo Shekuwe Kahale of the Kenya African National Union (KANU) party who got 3,180, and Mohamed Madhubuti of the Wiper party who got 1,632 votes.
