During the meeting, the distraught Returning Officers stated that they no longer feel safe executing their mandate.

The ROs wanted to file a petition at the ODPP seeking assurance that their safety and security will be guaranteed.

"IEBC ROs today (Wednesday) met with the DPP to seek the reassurance of their security in light of intimidation, threats, and ethnic profiling.

"The officials also decried that they have suffered physical, emotional, material, and reputational damage while performing their duties," the DPP stated.

The ROs raised concern with DPP Haji after Embakasi East Returning Officer Daniel Musyoka was found murdered and his body had visible signs of torture.

"The DPP assured them that ODPP remains committed to executing its constitutional mandate in accordance with the rule of law and will leverage the MOU with IEBC to ensure they get access to justice and work with the IG of Police for their security," the ODPP stated.

After Musyoka's body was found dumped in Loitoktok, Kajiado County the ODPP and the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) moved to court to push for justice.

In a statement, DPP Haji, noted that he was following up on the case shortly after the police recovered the body in the forest.

"ODPP is following up the case of missing & subsequent death of Daniel Mbolu Musyoka, an IEBC Returning Officer for Embakasi East Constituency, whose body was found today in Loitoktok Kajiado County.

"According to police, Musyoka's body was found in a thicket near the Kenya-Tanzania border in Loitoktok Sub-County. Musyoka went missing on Aug 11, 2022. Investigations are ongoing," read the statement by ODPP.
