Americans raised over Ksh350,000 for Deputy Rigathi Gachagua impressionist Zakaria Kariuki, alias KK Mwenyewe, after he asked for wellwishers to help him raise school fees.

Former Kiss FM presenter, Andrew Kibe, conducted the fundraiser on his social media pages on Tuesday, November 1.

Kibe, who relocated to America, stated that he teamed up with some of his friends to raise funds to clear the fee areas and support his talent.

"I recognised his talent, and a few friends and I came together to raise the money, between Ksh350-Ksh400,000.

"We want to give it to him because we know he is a good artist, and we hope that he can continue doing what he does," Kibe stated in the phone call interview.

KK Mwenyewe expressed gratitude to the well-wishers and vowed to invest the money in his comedy skits after offsetting his school fees.

"I will use the money to buy production tools such as a camera, tripod stand, and lighting equipment. I will also invest part of the money so that it counts in 10,12 years to come," he stated.

The goodwill gesture came days after Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja cleared the Ksh10,900 balance for the third-year university student.

Sakaja explained that he was moved by his honesty and dedication.

Kariuki, who became an online sensation for his mimicry of the DP, had openly shared his struggles to raise fees after his family only managed to raise Ksh15,500 of the Ksh29,400 billed by the university.

He explained that he was almost forced to differ his studies if he failed to pay his school fees before the October 31 deadline.

A beneficiary of the Higher Educations Loans Board (HELB), he explained that he was yet to receive his allotment for the semester from the government.

KK Mwenyewe is currently a student at Kisii University, taking a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science.
