Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala on Sunday, November 13, revealed that he is part of President William Ruto's government's deep state.

Speaking during a thanksgiving service in Baringo county, Malala who was floored by ODM's Fernandes Barasa stated that all poll losers who rallied behind Ruto were not far away from power.

He alluded that as leaders and community from the Western Kenya region, they were fully in government after delivering over one million votes in the last election.

"Kipchumba Murkomen, Aaron Cheruiyot and elected leaders from this region are the State, but for us who lost the election are the deep state, so those who have raised their concerns about hunger and security, we as the deep state will have a sit down with the president and solve that issue," he affirmed.

Malala, was Kenya Kwanza's flagbearer for the Kakamega gubernatorial seat on an ANC ticket seemed to allay any fears that Ruto has sidelined him.

The youthful politician has featured nowhere during Ruto's appointments, from handlers to Principal Secretary nominees.

However, his former running mate in the Kakamega gubernatorial elections was among the lucky few who made it to the final list of 51 principal secretaries picked by Ruto.

Dr Beatrice Inyangala who put up a spirited fight alongside Malala but unfortunately lost the polls was selected for PS portfolio in the State Department of Higher Education and Research.

His sentiments could spark backlash as Ruto's led team decried being mistreated by the deep state in the run-up to the general election.

In Kenyan politics, the “system”, sometimes referred to as the “deep state”, has come to refer to powerful bureaucrats, political operatives, and wealthy individuals bankrolling national elections.

Dr Ruto accused the faceless group of working to stop his State House bid. However, the President and his allies have maintained that they won the polls because of God.

"For the next five years, we shall continue to give thanks to God and uplift Him in our government.

We wouldn’t have been somebodies if it weren’t for God," stated Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, who is also the leader of the majority in the Senate.

During the campaigns, the Kenya Kwanza leadership was at loggerheads with the likes of Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti, Inspector-General of Police Hilary Mutyambai, and Director-General of National Intelligence Service (NIS) Philip Kameru, accusing them of taking sides.

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi recently told former Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Stephen Kihara, who is now in Embu, that he would have to resign under a Ruto government.

“Let us tell each other the truth, county commissioner [Mr Kihara] you participated in dividing our people here with a lot of incitements and we have forgiven you but you must resign from this government. We can’t accept what took place,” he said during the inauguration of Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii.
