Kameme FM Presenter Pastor Ben Kiengei, famously known as Muthee Kiengei on Sunday, November 13, revealed what stopped him from attending the burial of his close friend, Dan Mutara’s father.
Speaking during a church service at AIPCA Kibia Memorial Cathedral where he was ministering, Kiengei stated that he had cut ties with people who are not concerned with the welfare of others.
This was after netizens attacked him for forsaking Mutara when he needed him most.
“People have been insulting me the whole week. I want to tell you that I will never be associated with people who don't stand with me.
Even in this church, if there is anyone who doesn't stand with others I tell you today not to stand with that person when in need. Let those who are used to living alone life continue being lonely without bothering others,” he stated.
Mutara had reached out to his fans after his father passed on asking for help to clear a huge hospital bill that had accumulated.
The renowned Kikuyu gospel musician has been fighting depression for almost a year now. He had always been in denial but a video clip that went viral in January 2021 portrayed him as a disturbed person.
The clip that was recorded by Kenya Diaspora Media USA that is hosted by Jeremy Damaris, pointed out that all was not well and the singer needed urgent help. He explained that Mutara was going through depression.
In August 2020, Mutara was involved in a road accident near Maragua, Murang’a county that made it difficult for him to bounce back.
During the interview, the singer said the accident, compounded by the pandemic triggered a turn of events that later turned into depression.
In March 2021, he was taken to rehab after spending three weeks at a city hospital going through detox.
In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke during his father’s burial, Mutara still appeared weak as he even used a walking stick and was being supported to walk by one of his friends.
