Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o partnered with the national government to launch a multi-billion project in Kisumu County.

The governor announced the deal at State House, Nairobi, on Wednesday, August 7.

“We held talks over a Ksh30 billion United Green project that will be located in Kisumu County,” the governor indicated in a statement.

Nyong’o also divulged that the project will transform Kisumu County economically by boosting agriculture.

“The United Green Investment project will deliver agri-fintech services for rural communities, high productivity climate-smart farming, and state-of-the-art agro-industrial facilities in Kisumu,” the governor explained.

In addition, Nyong'o revealed that the project will benefit Kisumu County residents and neighbouring counties.

According to the deal's details, the project will be funded by the National government and the County government of Kisumu in partnership with the United Kingdom government under the United Green Group.

James Cleverly, the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, represented the UK government at the signing ceremony at State House.

Since his election on August 9, President William Ruto has, on several occasions, made inroads to the lakeside region that has always been a Raila Odinga stronghold.

The United Green project is the second multi-billion shillings deal Anyang’ Nyong’o has secured for Kisumu County in three months.

Nyong’o travelled to the Netherlands with Nakuru governor Susan Kihika in October 2022, where the two secured funding for water projects.

“Together with governor Kihika, we have negotiated with Dutch Water Operators for more funding of water utilities in the counties of Nakuru and Kisumu,” Nyong’o announced back then.
