Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha was surprised on her birthday, on the evening of Thursday, January 5, by her colleagues during their three-day Cabinet retreat with President William Ruto.

In a video exclusively obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, Nakhumicha is seen seated together with some of her colleagues at the Fairmont Mt. Kenya Safari Club in Nanyuki when the hotel staff walked in with a slice of cake while singing birthday songs.

Her colleagues then joined in the singing as an overwhelmed Nakhumicha cut the cake.

The CS was seated next to her Education counterpart Ezekiel Machogu, State House Comptroller Katoo Ole Metito and Deputy Chief of Staff Josphat Nanok.

"Cut the cake now, pass the fork and knife to her," Ole Metito was heard in the background giving orders at the dinner table.

Surprised by the events, Nakhumicha expressed shock at how fast her colleagues organised the surprise. She only informed the group about her birthday five minutes before the dinner.

"We are comrades. This is what is called the system," her colleagues joked.

At some point, she was overwhelmed with emotions as Mochogu asked some of her colleagues to help her cut the cake.

Afterwards, the CS moved Ruto's table where the Head of State was seated alongside his deputy Rigathi Gachagua to share a slice with them as a band entertained the guests.

Ruto and Gachagua wished her a happy birthday after receiving their slices. She also offered the slices to other individuals who were present.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and former Chief Justice David Maraga were also present at the event.

"Let me have a taste of one slice but we will not ask you how old you are turning," Mudavadi teased.

The CSs were in Laikipia for a three-day retreat organised by the Head of State to help strategise on the government's agenda for the year 2023.
