The body of a missing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams supervisor was discovered nailed inside a makeshift coffin on Thursday, January 12, three weeks after he was reported missing.

The 45-year-old Computer Studies teacher in a school in Nyeri was found in a coffin made using concrete slabs and covered with a cardboard.

Near the coffin, which resembled a boat, there were flowers, a black flag, scrolls written in a foreign language and a cow horn.

According to local residents, the missing person report was filed on December 22, 2022, after his sisters raised concerns.

The area chief confirmed his disappearance immediately after supervising KCSE exams.

"The school's administration had asked him to help ensure a smooth running of the national examinations," the chief stated.

"First the mother came and his two sisters said they had not seen him and his mobile phone was switched off and we reported to a local police station," one of the neighbours added.

His body was discovered after his neighbour alerted the police of a stench from his rented house. The cops broke the door and discovered the teacher's body.

"But what we found after breaking into the house, really shocked us. We found a coffin and also some strange chemical beneath the coffin," the deceased's neighbour told the press.

His close friends described him as a reserved person who valued his privacy.  He only engaged a few residents in political discourse after work.

The teacher would sometime switch off his phone and disappear even for a whole weekend, and then he would reappear to report back to work.

"It was normal for him to switch off his phone and disappear for some time. He did not complain or appear to be distressed during his final days," one of his friends stated.

Following the discovery of his body, cops in the area started piecing together evidence to ascertain how the teacher disappeared to establish the cause of his death.
